Finding Artistic Inspiration in and around Port Carlisle and Bowness on Solway, United Kingdom

The picturesque landscapes in and around Port Carlisle and Bowness on Solway have long captivated the hearts of artists seeking inspiration from the natural world. Nestled along the Cumberland coast, this charming area offer a unique blend of tranquillity and raw beauty, making it ideal inspiration for artists of all disciplines. As an artist who specializes in resin, alcohol ink art, and jewellery making, I've discovered that the scenic vistas and the ever-changing coastal environment provide a wellspring of creative energy, infusing my work with a touch of the magic that only Mother Nature can provide. When I work away from the area sometimes I forget, or rather don't have the time for my art. When I am here I reconnect and always find inspiration in this magical place.

Coastal Serenity:

I still can't help but be amazed by the serene charm of the coastline along Port Carlisle and Bowness on Solway. The wide expanse of sand, the gentle ebb and flow of the tide create a sense of calm that is both grounding and inspiring. The sunsets from the view of my home outside of Port Carlisle are incredible as are the clear stars in the sky in the dark  night. As I immerse myself in this tranquil atmosphere, I find my mind opening up to new ideas, colours, and forms that manifest in my resin, jewellery  and alcohol ink art.

Diverse Flora and Fauna:

The rich biodiversity in this region is a veritable treasure trove for artists. The marshlands, mudflats, and estuaries teem with life, from migratory birds to rare plant species. Exploring these wetlands and observing the interplay of colours, textures, and shapes among the flora and fauna can be a revelation for artists. The vibrant plumage of birds, the intricate patterns of shells, and the myriad shades of the sea offer endless possibilities for creative expression.

The Dance of Light and Water:

One of the most captivating aspects of the area around Port Carlisle and Bowness on Solway is the ever-changing dance of light and water. Whether it's the shimmering reflection of the setting sun on the estuary or the dappled patterns of light filtering through the trees along the coastline, these luminous moments are a constant source of inspiration for my art. In my resin pieces, I strive to capture the play of light on water, using translucent layers to recreate the mesmerizing effect.

Materials from the Land and Sea:

Jewellery making is another facet of my artistic journey that has been enriched by the local environment. I use flowers in my garden covered resin to make some of my jewellery. The coastline often gifts me with unique treasures like seashells, driftwood, and sea glass, which find their way into my jewellery designs. These materials, shaped by the sea and weathered by time, add an authentic, rustic charm to my pieces.
